Heidi Hetzer, the Berlin businesswoman whose later-in-life decision to drive around the world in an American vintage car won her many international fans, has died. Born June 20, 1937, she died at the age of 81 on April 23, 2019.

Hetzer was a mechanic took over the family business in 1969 and turned it into one of Berlin’s largest auto repair chains.

In 2014, at the age of 76, Hetzer started the ultimate road trip, a world tour in her 1930’s Hudson Greater Eight, which she called Hudo. She documented her journey on Instagram and returned home to Germany in 2017.
